New Year's Day
Jan. 1, 2023 | 12:00-1:00pm (Eastern)
This New Year’s Day, the National Bell Festival is excited to announce the construction of a new bell tower in Washington, D.C. Where will the structure be located? Why is the bell tower being built? How many bells will the new tower hold? When will the project be completed? All great questions – and all will be answered during a special press event hosted by the director of the National Bell Festival and community leaders.
We’re keeping details of the project under wraps until New Year’s Day 2023 – the 160th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Could that be a hint? You’ll have to wait and see!
Credentialed members of the press are invited to contact us for advanced materials and a press kit (under embargo until Jan. 1, 2023). Following a general overview of the project, questions will be taken from the media and members of the public about the new bell tower. We’ll discuss the timeline, key project details, the research that informed our decision-making, and the ways the bell tower will be an active and engaging reflection of the community it serves.
Following the event, all information about the new bell tower will be posted online at Bells.org as we continue to refine the details and plan future programming at the space. A competition open to residents of the surrounding community to design the bells, as well as grants and scholarships, will also be announced.
