In just over a week, Bell Raisers will experience an unobstructed view of the magnificent capital skyline and a first-hand look at one of Washington's most impressive collections of bells as Dr. Robert Grogan, carillonneur and Organist Emeritus, takes us on a private tour of the 329-ft. Knights' Tower at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. After the tour, Bell Raisers are invited to stay in the tower for a special carillon recital.
Our guide and carillonneur is perfectly suited to the task: Dr. Grogan serves as Organ Department Advisor and teaches organ and organ literature on the faculty of the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America. As a member of the American Guild of Organists, he has served as dean of the District of Columbia chapter and as chair of the board of trustees of the D.C. AGO Foundation. A Carillonneur member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America, he was recipient of the University of California (Berkeley) Medal in 1983 “for distinguished service to the carillon.”
