This weekend, the American Legion, Department of the District of Columbia, presented Paul Ashe, the director of the National Bell Festival, with a special commendation for our work coordinating bell ringing tributes for Veterans and the selfless men and women who gave the last full measure of devotion to our nation.
Throughout the year, we’re proud to set bells ringing at moments of national importance and significance – and there could be nothing more important than recognizing and paying tribute to the brave Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. We solemnly toll on occasions like Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and also during ceremonies honoring the fallen, missing, and prisoners taken from conflicts including World War II, Vietnam War, Korean War, and the Global War on Terrorism.
“When we call, the National Bell Festival answers,” said Tweila Rochelle-Cauthen, U.S. Marine Veteran and outgoing Commander of the American Legion, Department of the District of Columbia, as she presented a special certificate and plaque. The commendation was awarded during the Commander’s Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Veterans, members of the American Legion, and honored guests were treated to a meal as programming unfolded.
